I realize this was barely an important part of the podcast, but I heard you all question why the Levitation spell that was present in Morrowind was removed for Oblivion. Being a past Oblivion player, (but knowing much more about the game than I've actually played) I think I can answer that.
Like one of you said, I believe it is for a technical reason. Now, I haven't played Morrowind, but I've read from various sources that the game world is basically one huge map with no true loading screens when transitioning from overworld to city or dungeon. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) This is as opposed to Oblivion where every major city, dungeon, and what not has its own "instance", or area, that is loaded during said transition.
In other words, there is technically blank, unused space outside of these instances where the rest of the overworld map would've been in Morrowind. Now, as a developer, imagine if players could levitate high enough above these instances, such as over a city's massive walls, that they could see all that blank space, or even worse, step right into it... (Of course, this is also entirely possible with obscenely high Acrobatics, as well as using the infamous paintbrushes of all things as well, but that's beside the point.)
Or that's what I've read, anyhow. Someone can feel free to correct me.
Hmm. You could be right about that Shenrai. And don't worry about going off topic. That's what we do.
I still think it should technically be possible. Oblivion Gates and doorways and things would still transition to different maps, but I do believe the entire exterior world was one map in Morrowind. I've never loaded either into the Construction Kit to know for certain, but is that not the case in Oblivion?
You can keep flying up in Morrowind as well, but eventually you reach a point where the world below is farther than the game's draw distance and you can't tell if you're still going up or not. But the extreme need not be catered to. Yes, in Morrowind it was possible to abuse the magic system to you could basically fly forever like Superman or something. What really mattered to me though was coming into a city and having the ability to levitate up a few stories to a balcony rather than hunting down the enterance and navigating my way up several flights of stairs. I wouldn't care if there was an invisible wall past where anyone would reasonable want to go.
But if Oblivion is broken into seperate gated maps then I don't suppose it would be possible. It became second nature in Morrowind so it was one of the first things I missed about Oblivion.
Thanks for the comment, and sorry if I went on too long in my reply.
Regards,
David R. Lambert

Hey guys,
just finished listening to another nice episode ... i am long time fan finally got around to posting here. only just finished listening to this episode now on july 16 . good to hear you guys have some interest in football. now i want to ask tarente11a which club does she support. hoping she is a gunner like me
if you have more interest in the game i want to recommend the podcast "its up for grabs now" by Alan Davies, its the funniest podcast ever, i swear atleast those who like some british humour. Nice to hear VaeVictus X supporting Everton, guess you can call yourself a toffee now
the mage spell tips were great to hear glyph of paralysis is one of my favourite spell and i cant believe i didnt try that glyph combo before (use glyph of paralysis, paralyse, cone of cold, horror, mind blast, force field, crushing prison and you have the entire enemy group like sitting ducks, thats how i play my healer mage), i personally discovered the forcefield+crushing prison but you guys said to use it in reverse order, now will go into the game to find out if it produces the same effect.
in the next episode i hope you guys discuss DA2 in more detail. personally i am dreading the game will be action oriented from all the announcements that are happening. i fear they going to go down ME2 road and just make an action game with minimal RPG elements. guess console players will be happy but us PC guys will be disappointed as i was with ME2. what do you think on that? i have been on few bioware forums on this topic and most DA users agree with my views.
i have joined your steam group as well and sent friend invites to all three of you(from Seanu). hoping taren and kadono accepts them please
i have left 4 dead 2 on steam so invite me if you guys are playing that any time around. scavenge mode is my favourite on that one but sadly i dont find that many games hosting that type.
again keep up the great work really enjoying the podcasts.
PS: please dont shorten your episode time. who says you have to listen to them all in one go. i enjoyed the longer ones and listen to them in 4 to 5 parts usually when driving or shopping etc. so keep them long and keep them coming
