Dragon Age Podcast

Episode 11 - An Injection of Newness

It's been a full two weeks since the sequel to our beloved Dragon Age was announced and we bring you all the information we could find about it and supply a bit of our own speculation as well. We also cover the release of Patch 1.04, introduce mikemike37's brand new mod segment, answer some of your feedback, and kick off the first ever Dragon Age Podcast contest, which we call "Leliana's Letters". You'll want to listen to this episode right way, or at least look over the Official rules further down in the show notes) for your chance to win a copy of Leliana's Song for PC courtesy of BioWare.

If you enjoy our show, you can show your support by reviewing us on iTunes, posting on our BSN General Discussion Thread, or leaving a comment here in the Dragon Age Podcast Official Forums. Also, if you feel so inclined, feel free to join our BSN Social Group, our Steam Group, or our Xfire Club.

You can listen to the podcast here:

There's supposed to be something here. Do you have flash installed? You won't be able to see this without flash.

Leliana's Letters Contest

Among the massive number of fixes and additions to the latest Dragon Age patch, Awakening players can now receive letters from their love interest back in Ferelden, as was originally intended. And with the Leliana's Song DLC also recently released, we think now is the perfect time to announce our first contest! We call it "Leliana's Letters."

To participate all you have to do is write a letter from Leliana to your Grey Warden, from Leliana's point of view, of course, and send it to us at letters@dragonagepodcast.com. We'll vote on our favorites and the best will be read on Episode 12. What could be better than that?

Free DLC, you say? We've got that covered too. Writers of the winning entries will also receive, courtesy of BioWare, a download code for the PC version of Leliana's Song. Unfortunately we can only offer DLC codes to PC players at this time, but if this contest does well, maybe we can get some console codes in the future?

Please be creative with your entries. Though we will not be enforcing a wordcount, we'd appreciate it if you kept your entries to around the size of the typical Dragon Age codex entry.

No Tarantella? Crying

Still a great episode. Smile The two hours flew by. I definitely look forward to your podcast more than the official BioWare one. 30 minues? Bah! Amateurs!

Regarding Dragon Age 2 the only thing that has disappointed me (putting aside not being the Grey Warden and no doubt relegating our originals companions to cameos at best) is the lack of races. I almost always play RPGS as elves (rangers if allowed) but now I can't do that in Dragon Age 2. I know the devs on the forums have said that the change is because a human only character is going to improve the story they are telling, but unless him/her being a human is a big theme of the story I can't see how. Most great stories can be transposed to different cultures without any difficulty.

The newest feature I'm looking forward to is the ten year time span. This has the potential to make the game really epic and do a lot of interesting things with our choices, the world and our relationships with people. Of course, it could also make the game feel like a bunch of disjointed levels moving us along to the next part without much breathing time. But I really hope it's the former.

I know a lot of people got antsy on the forums about the combat being compared to Ninja Gaiden, but I love Ninja Gaiden so as long as they can balance that well with behind the scenes RPG mechanics it will be fine by me. If Leliana and Morrigan don't appear in good roles that will be unforgivable though. Angry

Looking forward to your coverage on DA2 over upcoming months. Will be an exciting time. Smile

Huh. Only a few days away from the contest deadline and as far as I've seen only one person has really confirmed that they'll enter. I think it'd be great for you all to hold similiar contests in the future, so it'll be a shame if this one falls through.

On the other hand, it won't be said that said person didn't have any competition. I just discovered the podcast yesterday and already I know I want to take part. So you all can expect at least one more entry.

As for my thoughts on the upcoming Dragon Age 2...

Well, considering the title is the bulk of what we know at this point, this is what I hope for the time being:

It won't be called Dragon Age 2 when all is said and done. Originality (excuse the pun) is a wonderful, wonderful thing. But I trust that BioWare knows that.

Yup, we've already had several entries, and even more statements of interest from folks on BSN. Of course, we expect more to come in as the deadline approaches as well. Smile

Oh, and Ashercon, I'm sorry I didn't reply before man! Yeah, it can be a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun. Smile You definitely have my gratitude for getting me my start in podcasting, both as a listener and a podcaster. Look at me now! Tongue

To anyone who doesn't know who Ashercon is, he was a cofounder of the Neverwinter Nights podcast, which was not only the first podcast I was on (Episode 101 if I recall properly), but also the first one I ever listened to way back in Episode 6. If you haven't yet, check it out at http://neverwinternightspodcast.com. Too bad it's on hiatus at the moment. Sad

Well, my entry's been sent in.

By the way, I can't help but wonder who exactly is going to read the winning entry out loud during the next podcast? Because while I do think it'd be hilarious to hear one of the guys speaking "weth ze femi Orleesian flavore", (Tongue) I imagine Tarante would make a great Leliana impersonator.

(Yes, I know she's British and not French... But still.)

Hi, Guys, I wish I had known about your podcasts months ago. I just heard number 11 and I have some questions. I had no idea there were "Mods." You said there would be show notes, I can't figure out where those might be, but I would love to know how to find these Mods and how to install them into DA.
Thank you,

If I remember correctly in Episode 2 they discuss installing mods in detail; it s not that difficult at all.
MODS (the bigger ones) that constitute a new campaign or setting or new character are installed via opening the Daupteder window (which is done by clicking in the "daupdeter.exe" icon, usually located in: My PC/ /Dragon Age/bin_ship).
Minor mods (new headmorphs, and such little details) are installed in the "override" folder (by default) located in your PC under "My documents" /Bioware/dragon age/packages/core/override.
You can find a trillion mods here;
http://www.dragonagenexus.com
where threres an easy-to use "search" engine that helps you find out what your looking for.

cheers

The show notes are available from the home page, or in each episode's thread (just scroll up to see episode 11 show notes!)

In addition, I'll be keeping links to the mods I discuss in the mod feature here:

It might be a good idea for us to do another "How to find/install/uninstall Mods" segment again. We're glad you enjoy the podcast Kazren. Thanks for listening! Smile
